The Art of Mrs Mondrian

2021, 147 x 50 x 25cm, mixed media with patchwork

If Piet Mondrian had had a wife and she had been an artist, I wonder what she would have made?

She fused the idealism of abstraction with the realities of her domestic life. Her art needed to be part of the interior design of their house and not take up too much room. So, this piece acts as a useful shelf for her nick-nacks, and the textile hanging can be rolled up into a discreet scroll.

The hanging scroll is made of a reversed patchwork using shopping lists for card and drying up cloths for material.

You can view a short video here where Alexandra explains more about this piece.
